FAQ

The ESHIP Summit, June 29 – July, 2020

 Kansas City

View 2019 Agenda

Why is the summit important?

The ESHIP Summit brings together people – ecosystem builders from a myriad of sectors – who are working to facilitate and spread entrepreneurship through the creation of entrepreneurial ecosystems. The Summit aims to accelerate the emergence of the field of ecosystem building while connecting attendees with the resources they need to better support entrepreneurs and increase connectivity in their communities.

Each Summit builds on previous events, starting with 2017 and 2018 ESHIP Summits, and includes showcasing existing ecosystem building tools, programs, policies and initiatives that will help communities more effectively fortify their entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Who should attend the ESHIP Summit?

Those who have been doing this work for years and take a collaborative, system-wide approach to fostering entrepreneurship.

Those who are ready to come and contribute ideas, talent, tools and case studies to advance the field of ecosystem building.

Those who take a holistic and collaborative approach to building support systems for entrepreneurs.

Those who work to transform their community and increase its capacity for change.

The event will build on past programming but first-time attendees are still welcome.

What is the cost of an ESHIP Summit registration?

There is a $325 registration fee, which covers Summit participation, dinner Tuesday evening and breakfast and lunch on Wednesday and Thursday.

Will The Mayors’ Conference be running concurrently to the summit again? Can I attend?

The last day of the Mayor’s Conference will overlap with the ESHIP Summit and attendees at both events will find commonalities in their strategies for growing entrepreneurial ecosystems in their communities. To attend the Mayors’ Conference on Entrepreneurship you must be an elected mayor of a community in the United States or a staff-member guest. If that is not you, but you’d like to encourage your Mayor to attend, please have them take a look.

What will we be doing?

Similar to years past, the agenda optimizes for peer-to-peer learning opportunities, relationship building and fun. Though we may have more speakers on stage (sharing tools) this year, we will also have small group content and interactive presentations. We seek practical results. Based on attendee feedback, we’ll also have longer sessions that allow for deeper dives into some topics and conversations. We will continue to update the ESHIP Summit Agenda as new content is added.

Will entrepreneurs be at the summit?

The ESHIP Summit puts entrepreneurs front and center. It is entrepreneur-centric.

However, some entrepreneurs may not have the interest or bandwidth to think about the ecosystem; they just happen to be in it.

The ESHIP Summit welcomes entrepreneurs who are ready to give back to the ecosystems in which they live, and help make connections so that more people can start and grow businesses.

What does "existing" ecosystem building tools mean?

Many of the National Resource Providers (NRPs) who have been part of the past ESHIP Summits already have tools that support ecosystem building work across the U.S. and internationally. This year’s Summit will showcase these tools and offer practitioners the opportunity to learn more.

Examples of NRPs and the resources they’ll be sharing:

What if I am a first time attendee?

Is this your first year at the ESHIP Summit? We encourage you to join us prior to the Summit to learn more about our progress over the last two years and prepare yourself to jump right in!

We encourage you to attend both if you’re available!

I live outside the United States, can I attend?

Due to the wishes of our founder, the Kauffman Foundation primarily supports entrepreneurship and ecosystem building activities in the United States. The Foundation is very aware that ecosystem building is emerging as a practice around the globe and best practices are being learned everywhere. Past ESHIP Summit attendees have come from countries on six continents and we welcome attendees of any country or background – but please be aware that a majority of Summit attendees live in the United States.

How do I register?

We are extending advanced registration opportunities to this year’s ESHIP Summit to past attendees first. If you received a formal email invitation, please register through the link provided in the email. If you have any questions about your registration, please email us. Tickets are now available to the public.

I did not receive an invitation; can I still attend the ESHIP Summit?

After an advanced registration pre-sale for past ESHIP Summit attendees, registration is now open to the general public, and tickets are available on a first come, first served basis.

Can someone else from my organization attend?

With limited space and to ensure diversity in attendees, we are kindly asking a maximum of two representatives to join us from any one organization. If you received an invitation but are unable to attend, simply click the link in the invite to encourage someone to attend in your place.

What else will I have to pay for?

Accommodation and transportation costs are the responsibility of each attendee. Once you arrive at the ESHIP Summit, all meals except for Wednesday night’s dinner will be covered and activities will be within walking distance or accessible via public transportation.

I am having trouble registering or have additional questions, what should I do?

Please email us with any questions.
